Afrobeats singer Young John recently shared insights into his upbringing and the contrasting reality he encountered outside his home. In a conversation with Saige Jones, John discussed his Christian background, noting that both of his parents were pastors. He started his music career in church as a drummer and keyboardist.
John recalled that his parents’ loving relationship deeply influenced his early beliefs about love. However, as he grew older, he realized that the outside world presented a different reality.
He also opened up about the profound impact of losing his mother to cancer and how he has coped with the loss. “I grew up in a religious home. Both my mum and dad were pastors. My mum had a school and was a psychologist. So, I started my music career as a church drummer and keyboardist,” he explained.
“When I was really young, I believed in love so much because of what I used to see between my parents, but as I grew up, I saw the world is a lot different than that.”
“My family was very close-knit until everyone got busy with life. And life happened. My mum is no longer with us; we lost her to cancer. It happened a while ago. I’m over it now.”
