Anja Ringgren Loven, the Danish aid worker, recently shared touching new photos of Hope, the toddler who was tragically branded a witch and abandoned in Akwa Ibom State.
As reported by LIB, the little girl, fittingly named Hope, was rescued late last month. Ms. Loven revealed that Hope was diagnosed with kwashiorkor, a severe type of malnutrition characterized by various symptoms such as enlarged liver, loss of appetite, bloated stomach, dehydration, hair loss, edema, and dermatitis.
At the time of her rescue, Hope weighed only 5 kilos, but she has since progressed to 5.8 kilos. This update is heartening considering her challenging journey.
This isn’t the first time Anja Ringgren Loven and her team have encountered such heartbreaking situations. In January 2016, they rescued another child named Hope, a boy, who had been similarly branded a witch and abandoned by his family.
Taking to Facebook on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, Anja shared the adorable photos of the two children. Her caption captured the emotional significance of the moment: “Hope has his hands full. OMG. How cute is this? It’s just so sweet to see Hope with our newly rescued girl who’s name is also Hope. Hope was the same size as her when we found him and now he is the one who takes care of others. Baby girl Hope is a little fighter. She continues to gain weight, getting more strength and she is adapting so well to her new life at Land of Hope. She is so beautiful.”
