Portuguesa president Alex Bourgeois has revealed his ambition to persuade Al-Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to join the Brazilian club.
The Paulista A1 side has been making bold moves to attract high-profile European players, previously attempting to sign Radamel Falcao and Nani.
Speaking to CNN (via TalkSPORT), Bourgeois explained:
“Reinforcing and restoring the pride of the Portuguese community here in Brazil was exactly the goal behind our attempt to sign Nani. We are now looking ahead to 2026, aiming to bring in a great Portuguese player.
“He’s the greatest Portuguese of all time and one of the biggest personalities in the world today. It would be incredible, though I can only imagine how many offers related to Portugal he receives. But at some point, we have to try to talk.”
He further outlined Portuguesa’s broader vision:
“Part of our strategic plan is to create a bridge between Brazil and Portugal through Portuguesa. We are making progress in this direction, and we believe it will help connect the 25 million-strong Portuguese community in Brazil with us.
“Beyond football, many Brazilians travel to Portugal for wine, food, religion, and beaches. Our goal is to bring all of this closer to home and strengthen that connection.”
Ronaldo, now 40, is nearing the end of his contract with Al-Nassr and is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement. However, reports suggest he may extend his stay in the Middle East, with a potential new deal worth €183 million per year that could cement his status as the world’s highest-paid footballer.
