Chiamaka Nnadozie among finalists for CAF Women’s Best Player Award

by Admin

Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named among the final five nominees for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.

The African football governing body revealed the top contenders for the prestigious award in a tweet on Wednesday night, December 4. Nnadozie is the only Nigerian to make the final list, as Rasheedat Ajibade, who was initially among the 10 nominees, missed the cut.

Joining Nnadozie in the top five are Tabitha Chawinga, Temwa Chawinga, Barbara Banda, and Sanaâ Mssoudy.

This year’s award will mark a new chapter, as it will have a winner other than Asisat Oshoala for the first time since 2018. The Super Falcons striker has claimed the title six times, including the last three consecutive editions.

Nnadozie has also been shortlisted for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, which she previously won in 2023.

Falconets’ Chiamaka Okuchukwu earned a spot among the top contenders for the Best Young Player award.

For the Coach of the Year category, Chris Danjuma of the Falconets made the final list, surpassing compatriots Bankole Olowookere of the Flamingos and Moses Adukwu of Edo Queens, who were part of the initial nominees.

Additionally, the Super Falcons are in contention for the National Team of the Year award, while Edo Queens have been nominated for Club of the Year.
