Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has sustained a hamstring injury and is expected to miss crucial upcoming matches, including the Copa del Rey final and the Champions League semi-final, according to reports from Spain.
The 36-year-old Polish international, who has scored 40 goals across all competitions this season, was forced off during Barcelona’s dramatic 4-3 victory over Celta Vigo on Saturday.
“Tests carried out on Sunday have confirmed that first-team player Robert Lewandowski has a semitendinosus injury in his left thigh,” the club announced in a statement. However, no official timeline for his recovery was provided.
Spanish outlets suggest he could be sidelined for up to three weeks. If confirmed, Lewandowski will miss Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid in Seville, as well as both legs of Barcelona’s Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan on April 30 and May 6.
He is also set to miss La Liga clashes with Mallorca and Valladolid, with a possible return pencilled in for the decisive league encounter against Real Madrid on May 11.
Barcelona, already winners of the Spanish Super Cup in January, are eyeing a historic quadruple. This is their first Champions League semi-final appearance since 2019. Manager Hansi Flick may turn to Ferran Torres or Dani Olmo—used previously as a false nine—to fill the void left by Lewandowski’s absence.
