Lionel Messi has revealed that he recently visited the newly renovated Camp Nou and expressed his desire to one day return to the legendary stadium to properly bid farewell to the fans he never got to say goodbye to.
The 38-year-old Argentine and Barcelona icon left the club in 2021 during a severe financial crisis, later joining Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Inter Miami two years after.
“Last night I returned to a place I deeply miss — a place where I was immensely happy, where you made me feel a thousand times like the happiest person in the world,” Messi shared on Instagram.
He added that he still dreams of returning, not merely as a visitor, but to finally receive the farewell he was denied when he left unexpectedly in 2021.
Messi remains a beloved figure in Barcelona, where he spent over two decades and became the club’s all-time top scorer. His heartfelt message came just days after he netted twice for Inter Miami on Saturday, helping his team progress in the MLS Cup play-offs.
