Carlo Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid following the Copa del Rey final on April 26, after the club’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Arsenal.
The Real Madrid head coach raised questions about his future after their 2-1 home defeat on Wednesday, which sealed a 5-1 aggregate loss in the quarter-finals.
Asked about his potential departure, Ancelotti said: “It could be this year, next year when my contract runs out. There’s no problem about it. But when I am done here, I will be grateful to this club. It could be tomorrow, in one year, or in 10 years—but I will be grateful. That’s it. Full stop.”
“We’ve done very well in recent seasons, but this year we’ve had to suffer. Things didn’t go as expected, but that happens in sport. There are no unbeatable teams.”
According to Sky Sports, Ancelotti will step down after next Sunday’s Copa del Rey final against long-time rivals Barcelona, who currently top La Liga by four points.
Before the final in Seville, Madrid will face Athletic Bilbao at home on Sunday and travel to Getafe next Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Brazil remains keen on appointing Ancelotti, with talks expected to intensify in the coming days.
