Napoli have stepped up contacts with Atalanta over a potential move for Ademola Lookman as the Serie A club looks to strengthen its attack before the transfer window closes.
According to *Il Mattino*, talks are firmly underway for the Nigerian winger, who recently returned to Bergamo after the Africa Cup of Nations and is viewed as a possible departure either in this window or by the summer. The report adds that Lookman remains Napoli’s primary target, although the structure of a deal poses challenges due to the club’s “zero balance” policy in place until February 2, which limits their financial flexibility.
Napoli are unable to force negotiations but are hoping Atalanta’s need to sell—without accepting a reduced fee—could open the door to an agreement. This comes as Atalanta’s attacking options have been boosted by the return of former Napoli forward Giacomo Raspadori.
The 28-year-old has drawn interest from several European clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray, and West Ham, but Napoli are believed to be the most determined to complete a deal.
Spanish outlet *Fichajes* reports that Napoli view Lookman as a player capable of making an immediate impact, with club officials convinced his profile aligns well with their sporting project and would significantly improve squad quality.
However, Napoli’s financial constraints remain a major obstacle, with the club adhering to an internal policy of not spending more than it generates during the transfer window. As a result, the management is exploring possible player departures to free up funds, with Lorenzo Lucca and Noa Lang reportedly close to moves abroad.
Atalanta are said to be holding out for a €40 million fee for the Nigeria international, who won a bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has revealed he has personally tried to persuade Lookman to join him in Turkey. Speaking to *Forza Cimbom*, Osimhen said he spoke with Lookman before a World Cup qualifier and shared his positive experiences at Galatasaray, highlighting the club and its fans.
Lookman has scored four goals in 22 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta this season. He also featured in the CAF Team of the Tournament at AFCON 2025, scoring three goals and providing four assists.
