Instagram Just Changed the Game — You Can Now Edit Carousel Posts After Publishing

by Admin

Instagram has introduced a new feature that allows users to rearrange photos and videos in carousel posts even after they have been published, giving creators more control over how their content appears.

The update was confirmed by Instagram’s Creators account on Monday.

Users can edit a carousel post by tapping the three-dot menu, selecting Edit, then long-pressing the photo or video they want to move and dragging it into a new position before tapping Done to save changes.

The feature works smoothly, allowing photos and videos to be rearranged multiple times without affecting likes, comments, shares, or other engagement metrics.

However, it is only available for newly uploaded carousel posts. Older posts cannot be reordered, although users can still delete slides.

Adding new media to an existing carousel is still not possible, meaning a new post must be created for additional content.

The update is rolling out gradually, so users who do not see the feature yet are encouraged to update the app and check again in the coming days.

According to Instagram, carousel posts typically generate around 12% more engagement than single-image posts.

This new capability is expected to help creators optimise their posts and maintain engagement without needing to delete and repost content.

“This feature gives users the flexibility to ensure their posts reflect their creative vision at any time. You can now keep the conversation going and your engagement intact without deleting and re-uploading content,” the Creators account stated.

The update is part of Instagram’s ongoing efforts to introduce tools that help creators better manage and grow their presence on the platform.
