Nigeria Türkiye mining cooperation deal has been signed between the two countries as they move to strengthen bilateral collaboration in the solid minerals sector and deepen economic ties. The Nigeria Türkiye mining cooperation deal was formalised during the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit in Türkiye, marking a significant step toward expanding investment and technical partnerships in mining development.

The agreement was signed by officials from both governments with Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, leading the delegation. He stated that Nigeria is eager to benefit from Türkiye’s advanced expertise in mining exploration, digital systems, licensing reforms, training, and capacity building to accelerate growth in the sector.

According to Alake, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fully supported efforts to strengthen relations with Türkiye, especially in mining and energy cooperation. He noted that Nigeria is open to strategic partnerships that will improve governance structures, attract investors, and ensure sustainable development of its mineral resources.

The minister highlighted ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s mining sector over the past three years, explaining that they have improved the ease of doing business and boosted investor confidence. He added that foreign investors can now repatriate profits under regulated conditions, while incentives continue to attract serious stakeholders.

Alake also disclosed that reforms have led to increased Foreign Direct Investment inflows, alongside stricter enforcement measures against illegal mining activities. Over 300 illegal operators, including foreign nationals, have been arrested, while more than 150 prosecutions are ongoing. Additionally, over 100 illegal mining sites have been reclaimed and returned to licensed operators.

He confirmed that Turkish companies are ready to invest in Nigeria’s mining and energy sectors.

He also expressed interest in expanding collaboration beyond mining into hydrocarbons, stressing Nigeria’s importance as a key player in the global energy market.

The agreement reinforces both countries’ commitment to long-term cooperation and positions Nigeria as a major destination for mining investment under the Nigeria Türkiye mining cooperation deal framework.
