Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that new signing Viktor Gyökeres could make his debut in their upcoming pre-season clash against Tottenham Hotspur. The North London derby is scheduled to take place on Thursday in Hong Kong.
Gyökeres, 27, was officially unveiled as an Arsenal player on Saturday and immediately flew to Singapore, where he watched his new teammates edge out Newcastle United 3–2.
Arteta confirmed that while the striker hasn’t trained with the team since winning the league with Sporting, he may be involved in the next match.
“Well, I think he hasn’t had a single training session with the team since the last game with Sporting when they became champions,” Arteta said. “So we will assess him on Monday. He’s done all the medicals, everything is looking good.
“But to get him up to speed with the right levels of fitness is very important. We’re not going to stop him—we want him with us as quickly as possible, but the medical team will assess and decide.”
