BREAKING: CAF Awards Nigeria Three Points, Three Goals for Libya Match

by Admin

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted Nigeria three points and three goals for the abandoned match against Libya.

This decision follows an investigation by the CAF Disciplinary Board into the disrupted Africa Cup of Nations qualifier held on October 15 in Benghazi. The Super Eagles left the match after being stranded for nearly a day at an unstaffed airport due to poor arrangements by the host country.

In its ruling, CAF found the Libya Football Federation in violation of Article 31 of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations, along with Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

The five-point decision includes:

1. Libya Football Federation is found in breach of Article 31 of the AFCON Regulations, and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
2. The Libya vs. Nigeria match (No.87) in the AFCON 2025 Qualifiers, set for October 15, 2024, in Benghazi, is forfeited by Libya with a score of 3-0.
3. The Libya Football Federation is fined USD 50,000.
4. The fine is due within 60 days of notification.
5. All other motions for relief are dismissed.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe reiterated that the organisation would not tolerate unsportsmanlike conduct or unfair treatment in African football.

As a result, Nigeria now has 10 points from four matches, keeping them at the top of Group D.
