Stanley Alieke, the lawyer for controversial rapper Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has announced that the singer has been granted bail after spending nearly a month in police custody.
Alieke shared the update on his Instagram page on Monday, writing, “Apki has been granted bail by the court,” without providing further details.
Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 during a performance in Owerri, Imo State. His arrest was reportedly linked to allegations of verbal abuse directed at Afrofusion star Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy.
Darlington’s legal counsel, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed that Burna Boy was behind the rapper’s arrest. The controversy began when Darlington criticised Burna Boy for his connection to U.S. rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is facing serious allegations, including sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Despite his initial arrest, Speed Darlington vowed to continue calling out Burna Boy for his association with Diddy.
Earlier, Adeyanju had disclosed that Speed Darlington would either be arraigned within 48 hours or released on bail. He stated, “Our FREP application for Speed Darlington has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Justice may take time, but it always prevails.”
