Chelsea have officially announced the signing of Portuguese midfielder Dário Essugo from Sporting CP on a long-term deal.
The two clubs reached an agreement earlier this year, with Sporting confirming that Chelsea will pay a €22.3 million fee for the 20-year-old. Essugo has signed a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until June 2033.
He is expected to join the Chelsea squad for their pre-season tour of the United States later this month.
Essugo spent last season on loan at Las Palmas, where he stood out in a struggling side, making 27 appearances despite the team’s relegation from La Liga.
The midfielder made history in March 2021 by becoming the youngest-ever player to feature for Sporting CP at just 16 years and six days old. He has also represented Portugal at every youth level from U15 to U21.
Essugo’s arrival is set to be followed by that of Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap, who has completed his medical ahead of a £30 million move.
