According to US intelligence officials, China and Russia are purportedly coordinating on a joint endeavor to invade Taiwan.
Avril Haines, Director of US National Intelligence, conveyed to the US Congress on Thursday the observation of China and Russia conducting exercises together related to Taiwan. She emphasized that China desires Russia’s involvement in this endeavor, stating, “We see China and Russia, for the first time, exercising together in relation to Taiwan and recognizing that this is a place where China definitely wants Russia to be working with them, and we see no reason why they wouldn’t.”
Lieutenant General Jeffrey Kruse underscored the heightened concern within the US Defence Department regarding the potential collaboration between Russia and China, particularly in terms of joint force requirements. He emphasized the necessity of considering this factor in strategic planning, as reported by Bloomberg.
Republican Senator Mike Rounds addressed the potential threat of a joint invasion of Taiwan during a Senate Armed Services Committee meeting. He queried the head of the Defence Intelligence Agency about the Pentagon’s preparedness in the event of such an invasion.
Haines further elaborated on the evolving nature of the partnership between Russia and China, characterizing it as exhibiting “increasing cooperation in the ‘no-limits’ partnership.”
These developments occur against the backdrop of Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s forthcoming trip to Europe, signifying China’s strategic efforts to reshape its foreign relations.
