Court grants bail to Anthony Joshua’s driver, adjourns trial until February 25

by Admin

A Magistrate’s Court in Sagamu, within Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, has granted bail to Adeniyi Kayode, the driver who was conveying former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua and two members of his entourage before a fatal road accident.

The court admitted Kayode to bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with two sureties, and adjourned the matter until February 25, 2026, for further proceedings.

The 46-year-old is facing trial over a crash that resulted in the deaths of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.

Kayode was arraigned on January 2 before Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun on a four-count charge, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention leading to bodily harm and property damage, as well as driving without a valid national driver’s licence.

The charges are alleged to contravene provisions of the Federal Highway Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as applicable in Ogun State.

During the hearing, prosecution counsel Nijiwe Richard requested an adjournment to allow the case file to be forwarded to the Ogun State Attorney General’s office through the Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, in the interest of justice.
