Carl Dean, the beloved husband of country music legend Dolly Parton, has passed away at the age of 82. The couple, who married in a secret ceremony when Parton was 20, shared nearly six decades of love and companionship.

Dean, who wed the country icon in 1966, famously avoided the public eye, never attending events with his wife. Over the years, Parton shared only a few glimpses of their life together.

On Monday, March 3, Parton announced his passing via Instagram. “Carl Dean, husband of Dolly Parton, passed away March 3rd in Nashville at the age of 82. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with immediate family attending. He is survived by his siblings Sandra and Donnie,” the statement read.

Parton expressed her deep sorrow, writing, “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy. The family asks for privacy during this difficult time.”

Despite shunning the limelight, Dean remained a steadfast supporter of his wife while running his asphalt business. He also served as the inspiration for one of Parton’s most iconic songs, Jolene.

Dean is survived by Parton and his siblings.
