Eight farmers abducted by bandits in Kebbi

by Admin

Bandits have abducted eight farmers in a fresh attack on Gandun Wasagu community in Wasagu Ward, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The incident, confirmed by the LGA Chairman, Hussaini Aliyu Bena, occurred on Saturday afternoon, November 22, while the farmers were working in their fields.

“Eight of our farmers were taken, and one person was shot. The injured victim is receiving treatment at Wasagu General Hospital. We are working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe return of those abducted,” Bena said.

He added that the attack was promptly reported to the military operating in the area, who are now pursuing the bandits to secure the victims’ release.

Community members indicated that the attackers, believed to have crossed over from neighboring Zamfara State, stayed in the area for several minutes before fleeing with the victims.

One resident, Sani, described the situation as terrifying, saying, “People are afraid to return to their farms. This is the second attack in less than two weeks. We don’t know what will happen next if nothing is done.”

Security analyst Bakatsine, who highlighted the incident on his X account, warned that the pattern of attacks signals a worsening security situation.

“The situation in Wasagu is becoming desperate. Urgent and coordinated action is needed before these communities are completely overwhelmed,” he said.
