The family of Ross Ogbeinde, a Nigerian student who tragically collapsed and passed away on December 29, 2024, in the United Kingdom, is appealing for financial assistance to cover his burial expenses.
Ogbeinde, a native of Benin City, Edo State, was a student at the University of South Wales and lived in Pontypridd, South Wales, with his wife and three children. He was set to graduate in January 2025 before his untimely demise.
According to a statement by his wife, Benedicta, on GoFundMe, Ogbeinde collapsed suddenly and died before an ambulance could reach him. The funds raised will be used for his burial arrangements and to support his widow and children in meeting their immediate needs.
As of Sunday, the GoFundMe campaign had garnered £225 from eight donations, representing just one per cent of its £20,000 target.
This incident follows reports of sudden deaths among Nigerians in the UK. In January 2024, another Nigerian student, Chinonso Ezeonwumere, an MSc Management student at the University of Hertfordshire, also died under similar circumstances.
The recent surge in such tragic cases has left many Nigerians in the UK shocked and concerned.
