FIFA unveils Series 2026 schedule as 48 nations set to compete

by Admin

FIFA has unveiled the complete match schedule for the expanded **FIFA Series 2026™**, an international friendly tournament that will feature 48 national teams from all six confederations.

The fixtures, published on FIFA’s official website on Monday, will be played during the March and April 2026 international window.

A total of 12 groups—nine men’s and three women’s—each consisting of four teams, will compete across 11 host nations. Rwanda will host two groups, while other venues include Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Côte d’Ivoire, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Thailand and Uzbekistan.

All matches will count as official international friendlies and will be broadcast worldwide, giving fans global access while offering participating teams—particularly those that rarely face opposition from other confederations—valuable international exposure.

FIFA stated that each Member Association selected its preferred competition format within the group, opting either for a semi-final and final structure or a set of pre-arranged fixtures. Regardless of format, one team will be crowned group winner.

Any match that ends in a draw will proceed straight to a penalty shoot-out, with no extra time played, ensuring a decisive result.

FIFA noted that the 2026 edition builds on the successful pilot tournament staged in 2024 and follows the confirmation of hosts and group line-ups in January 2026.

The initiative forms part of FIFA’s wider strategy to encourage balanced global development of the sport by creating competitive opportunities outside major tournaments such as the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.

“The FIFA Series™ continues to reflect our commitment to inclusive football development. By bringing teams from different confederations together in competitive environments, we are strengthening both the sporting and cultural dimensions of the game while increasing visibility for emerging nations on the international stage,” FIFA said.
