Former Gombe FA chairman, Gara Gombe, has criticised the appointment of Eric Chelle as Super Eagles coach, calling him a ‘kindergarten coach’ and saying the Football Federation made a mistake by choosing a lightweight coach to manage heavyweight players.
Chelle was named as the new coach on Tuesday night, January 7, after the decision was approved by the NFF Executive Committee, following a recommendation from its Technical and Development Sub-Committee.
The 47-year-old, a former international player with five caps for Mali, has coaching experience with GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran.
“Who is Chelle? Who knows him? What was his record? Nothing. After all this waiting since AFCON in Ivory Coast, we couldn’t get a coach,” Gombe said on Brila FM.
“And now, after all these years, we’ve appointed a kindergarten coach to manage our world-class players. It’s really unfortunate.”
