Detained IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu, Doubts Fair Judgments in Abuja Courts
The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed his lack of confidence in receiving favourable judgments from any court in Abuja. This was revealed by his lead counsel, Chief Aloy Ejimakor, following a visit to Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja, where he has been held since his extraordinary rendition from Kenya in June 2021.
According to Ejimakor, Kanu voiced frustration over the disregard for due process and the rule of law in the handling of his case.
In a statement, Ejimakor said: “He asked us to inform the public that he does not expect any favourable judgment from the Abuja courts because his cases are decided based on politics – dirty and deadly politics – rather than the rule of law.
“The manner in which laws are applied to him contradicts both Nigeria’s written laws and relevant international laws. Those benefiting from insecurity are influencing negative decisions. If justice were served, the well-funded campaigns to demonise him and his mission would lose their impact.
“Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu urges the public to read all court rulings related to him and IPOB to understand that the decisions do not reflect what the law dictates. He insists his trial is a sham aimed at undermining truth and justice.”
It is worth recalling that Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja High Court recused herself from Kanu’s case last year but was later reassigned to it, a move that sparked protests from Kanu and his legal team.
