The management of the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe (FTH) has banned its employees from engaging in cryptocurrency mining during working hours.
The hospital administration noted that this new trend was distracting staff from attending to patients.
According to an internal memo, employees are permitted to participate in other activities outside of their working hours.
Adamu Usman Tela, the hospital’s deputy director of administration, stated on Thursday, September 19, “We implemented this measure proactively, even before receiving any complaints, because prioritising public health is our primary concern.”
The memo also mentioned that “SERVICOM, ACTU, and Security Officers have been deployed to monitor and ensure compliance with this directive.”
Recently, many Nigerians have been spending extended periods on their phones to mine cryptocurrency.
