CAF President Patrice Motsepe has announced an increase in prize money for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to take place from February 2-28. The tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Motsepe revealed that the winner will receive $3.5 million, representing a 75% increase in prize money.
Speaking on the tournament’s importance, he said, “CHAN plays a vital role in developing Africa-based players and nurturing young talent, contributing significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF competitions.”
He added, “This tournament is part of our broader strategy to enhance African football’s appeal to fans, broadcasters, sponsors, and stakeholders both on the continent and globally.”
The total prize pool for CHAN 2024 has also been raised to $10.4 million, marking a 32% increase.
