Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly opened their Montecito home to friends seeking refuge from the Los Angeles wildfires.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have offered their mansion as a safe haven to those forced to evacuate due to the fires, which erupted in southern California on Tuesday, January 7. The disaster has claimed at least 10 lives and displaced over 100,000 residents in the Los Angeles area.
According to People, Harry and Meghan, who live roughly 140km from the affected zone, “have opened their home to friends and loved ones forced to evacuate.”
The couple is also directing donations through their Archewell Foundation to support relief efforts. Reports suggest they are collaborating with the organisation to “identify the most impactful ways to assist the community during this crisis.”
Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43, purchased their $14 million USD ($23 million AUD) home in 2020.
This news follows the couple’s recent statement offering guidance to residents on keeping pets and vulnerable individuals safe amid the ongoing disaster.
