Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed heartbreak over the death of Diogo Jota, saying it “doesn’t make sense.”
Jota lost his life in a tragic car crash in the early hours of Thursday. His brother, Andre—also a footballer—was in the vehicle and died as well.
Reacting on social media, Ronaldo wrote:
“Doesn’t make any sense. Just recently we were together with the national team, and now you’re gone. You had just gotten married.”
He added, “To your family, your wife, and your children, I offer my deepest condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you’ll always be with them.
R.I.P. Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you.”
Ronaldo and Jota had recently celebrated winning the UEFA Nations League together just last month.
