Swedish coach Janne Andersson is set to be appointed as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.
According to SCORENigeria, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to announce Andersson’s appointment this week.
The 61-year-old’s appointment comes two months after Finidi George resigned from the position. This will be Andersson’s first coaching role in Africa.
Andersson previously managed the Swedish national team from 2016 to 2023. During his tenure, he led Sweden to their first FIFA World Cup in 12 years (2018) by defeating the Netherlands and Italy in the qualifiers.
Under his guidance, Sweden had its most successful World Cup campaign since 1994, winning Group F ahead of South Korea, Mexico, and then-reigning champions Germany, though they were eliminated by England in the quarter-finals.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Benin Republic and Rwanda in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next month.
