Joshua makes weight ahead of €100m showdown with Paul

by Admin

Two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is officially on weight for his upcoming €100m showdown with Jake Paul, just two weeks before the highly anticipated clash in Miami.

Joshua faces the YouTuber-turned-boxer on 19 December in a six-round bout that has captured global attention, largely because of the vast gap in size, pedigree, and experience between the pair.

The 36-year-old is required to come in under 17st 7lb (111kg). In a video posted on social media, Joshua stepped on the scales at 110.6kg, showing he is comfortably within the limit.

“They must have forgot. I’m used to dealing with big weights and scales,” Joshua said.

The weight issue has been one of the biggest talking points ahead of the fight. Paul, 28, has spent most of his career competing at cruiserweight, while Joshua is a former unified heavyweight champion. Eddie Hearn revealed Paul’s camp initially pushed for an even lower weight before both sides agreed to the 111kg limit—unusual for heavyweights, who traditionally don’t cut weight.

Paul’s heaviest career weight was 16st 3lb (103kg) for his 2024 fight against Mike Tyson. Both fighters will wear regulation 10oz gloves.

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has voiced serious concerns for Paul, warning that the mismatch in size and experience could be dangerous.

“If Anthony Joshua wants, he will kill this guy,” Usyk told Boxing Scene. “Anthony Joshua is an Olympic champion first… Joshua is Rolls-Royce; Jake is a Fiat.”

The Ukrainian, who went 24 rounds with Joshua across two victories, added jokingly, “Yes, I will pray for Jake Paul. Because I want to fight him in the octagon.”

The size disparity is staggering—Joshua weighed 52lb more than Paul in their most recent bouts and also stands five inches taller.

Paul enters the contest with a 12-1 professional record, with most of his wins coming against inexperienced or ageing opponents. His only defeat came against Tommy Fury in 2023.
