Billionaire Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, met with incoming US President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on Wednesday. This meeting marks another sign of the Meta CEO’s growing relationship with the president-elect as he prepares for his second term.
A Meta spokesperson told CNN, “It’s an important time for the future of American innovation. Mark was grateful for the invitation to join President Trump for dinner and the opportunity to meet with members of his team about the incoming administration.”
Politico was the first to report Zuckerberg’s presence at Mar-a-Lago. The specifics of their conversation remain unknown.
Zuckerberg had been in touch with Trump during the months leading up to the election, according to a New York Times report. After the July assassination attempt on Trump, Zuckerberg told Bloomberg that it was “one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen in my life” when Trump stood up and pumped his fist in the air.
In a book released this summer, Trump accused Zuckerberg of “plotting” against him and threatened him with “life in prison” if he engaged in any illegal activity during the election.
“We are watching him closely,” Trump wrote. “If he does anything illegal this time, he will spend the rest of his life in prison — as will others who cheat in the 2024 Presidential Election.”
During a Fox News interview on Wednesday night, Trump adviser Stephen Miller confirmed the meeting and stated that Zuckerberg “has been very clear about his desire to be a supporter of and a participant in this change we’re seeing all around America and the world, this reform movement Donald Trump is leading.”
