Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has candidly reflected on his difficult spell at Watford, describing it as one of the most testing periods of his career. The Nigerian international has since revived his form and reputation with Udinese in Serie A.
Okoye joined the English club while still recovering from shoulder surgery, which added to the challenges he faced.
“My time at Watford was challenging. There was a lot going on, both on and off the pitch. I was younger and managing many things at once, including my recovery from shoulder surgery. It was a tough period,” Okoye told Footy-Africa.
The goalkeeper acknowledged the lessons he learned from that experience: “Maybe I didn’t handle some situations in the best way, but I learned from them and I’ve grown a lot.”
Okoye never made a league appearance for Watford and was eventually loaned to Sparta Rotterdam. However, his move to Italy has sparked a remarkable resurgence.
“I got another chance at Udinese, and I took it. I’ve become a better player and a better man,” he stated.
Thanks to his consistent and highly praised performances, Okoye has established himself as Udinese’s first-choice goalkeeper, demonstrating his growth both on and off the field.
