Nnamdi Kanu files defence documents in his terrorism case

by Admin

Biafra agitator Nnamdi Kanu has complied with the Federal High Court’s directive in Abuja to open his defence in the terrorism case filed against him by the Federal Government.

After previously resisting moves to begin his defence, Kanu on Friday started submitting his defence documents inside the courtroom, following an order by Justice James Omotosho.

Due to complaints raised by the defendant about the filing process, Justice Omotosho directed that the court’s registry be temporarily moved to the courtroom to enable Kanu to complete the filing without further delay.

Counsel for the Federal Government, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), informed the court that the prosecution was ready to receive Kanu’s defence documents and respond accordingly.

The filing was still ongoing when the judge stood down proceedings for one hour to allow the process to be finalised.

Kanu had repeatedly refused to open his defence earlier, insisting that the prosecution must first identify the exact terrorism law he allegedly violated. This latest move follows the court’s warning that he risked losing his chance to present a defence if he failed to comply.

Kanu had previously claimed he was misled into pleading to a false charge.
