Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen scored twice as Galatasaray secured a 4-1 win over Sivasspor in the Turkish Süper Lig on Saturday, marking a historic milestone in his career.
The 26-year-old’s first goal, a clinical finish in the 32nd minute, brought his season tally to 32 goals across all competitions, surpassing his previous record of 31 goals set during his exceptional 2022/23 season with Napoli.
Osimhen added his second goal in the 31st minute, taking his total to 33 goals for the season and reinforcing his reputation as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.
Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk praised Osimhen’s impact after the match: “Victor is a rare talent. He not only scores goals but also inspires the team with his work ethic and determination. We are fortunate to have him,” Buruk said.
Since joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, Osimhen has been instrumental in the team’s success. His 24 league goals have helped the Istanbul-based club climb to the top of the Süper Lig standings, as they aim for a third consecutive title.
Reflecting on his record-breaking season, Osimhen said: “Breaking my own record is special, but I’m more focused on helping the team win trophies. The support from my teammates and fans has been incredible,” he told NTV Spor.
In the same game, Lucas Torreira and B.A. Yilmaz also found the back of the net for the home team, who are now eight points clear of second-place Fenerbahce, with a game in hand.
This victory and his goalscoring form continue to cement Osimhen’s place in Galatasaray’s history, as they push for both domestic and European glory. With the team’s next fixtures approaching, all eyes will be on Osimhen to see how far he can extend his remarkable goal-scoring run.
