Chelsea have completed the signing of Manchester United outcast Alejandro Garnacho for a reported £40 million ($54m).
The 21-year-old Argentine international signed a seven-year contract with the Blues and was present at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 to go top of the Premier League.
“This is an incredible moment for me and my family. Joining this great club is a dream, and I can’t wait to get started,” Garnacho said. “I watched the Club World Cup, and to be part of the world champions is special. We’re the best team in the world—it feels amazing to be here.”
Garnacho made 144 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 26 goals, including one in their 2-1 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in 2024. However, he fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim and, along with Antony and Jadon Sancho, was excluded from first-team training this season.
His arrival takes Chelsea’s spending this transfer window beyond £250 million, with Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao, and Jamie Gittens also joining to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s attack.
However, Chelsea’s plans to loan Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich may collapse after Delap suffered a hamstring injury against Fulham. Reports suggest the club has ordered Jackson back to London, leaving Pedro as their only fit centre-forward.
“When you have two strikers, it’s enough. But when one is out for weeks, it becomes difficult,” said Maresca, hinting Delap could be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
