Rodman becomes the world’s highest-paid female footballer

by Admin

Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman has become the world’s highest-paid female footballer after signing a new three-year contract with the club, her agent has confirmed.

The 23-year-old, daughter of former NBA star Dennis Rodman, had been a free agent since her previous deal with the Spirit expired on 31 December 2025.

According to BBC Sport, the new agreement is worth around $2 million per year, including bonuses, and will keep her at the club until 2028.

Rodman described the contract as “amazing”, calling it a “monumental and game-changing moment”.

Before the deal, Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmatí — winner of the Ballon d’Or in 2023, 2024, and 2025 — was the highest-paid female footballer.

The National Women’s Soccer League introduced a new “High Impact Player” rule in December 2025, allowing clubs to spend up to $1 million above the salary cap on exceptional players. The league’s salary cap for 2025 stood at $3.5 million per team.

“Trinity is a generational player, but more importantly, she represents the future of this club and the future of women’s football,” said Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang.

Rodman helped the Spirit win the NWSL Championship in her debut season in 2021 and was named NWSL Rookie of the Year. She has earned 47 caps for the United States, scoring 11 goals since making her senior debut in 2022, including three goals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the USA won gold.

Her father, Dennis Rodman, won five NBA championships with the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls.
