by Admin

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed to 26th place in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Monday, recording an impressive rise of 12 positions.

The Eagles moved up from 38th after a strong showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where they finished third.

Led by head coach Eric Chelle, the team showed consistency and resilience throughout the tournament, winning six of their seven matches. Their only loss came in the semi-finals, where they were narrowly defeated by host nation Morocco on penalties.

The Super Eagles responded positively, sealing third place with a convincing 4–2 win over Egypt in the playoff, a performance that highlighted their attacking quality and mental toughness.

The top 10 in the latest FIFA rankings remains dominated by traditional football giants: Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany. Nigeria also recorded the highest points increase in the rankings, gaining 79.09 points.

In Africa, the current top 10 teams are Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tunisia, DR Congo, and Mali.

Nigeria’s upward movement underlines the growing impact of African teams on the global stage, with the Super Eagles firmly among the continent’s leading forces.
