Former Nigerian footballer, Austine Okocha, has attributed Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman’s success in winning the African Player of the Year award to his uniqueness and dedication.
The Atalanta star claimed the prestigious award last Monday in Marrakesh, Morocco, surpassing notable contenders like PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, Brighton’s Simon Adingra, and Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy.
At 27, Lookman becomes the sixth Nigerian to receive this honour. Speaking on Soccer TV’s YouTube channel, as reported by The Sun, Okocha, a former BBC African Player of the Year, highlighted that the award reflects Lookman’s commitment and hard work.
“The CAF Award is not just about your performance on the pitch,” said the former Super Eagles captain.
“It evaluates your attitude on the field, your interactions with teammates, and your responses to coaches, alongside your tactical displays.”
“For Ademola Lookman to win African Player of the Year, it means he excelled in all these areas,” Okocha concluded.
