Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has confirmed that President Tinubu and former U.S. President Donald Trump will meet “in the coming days.”
The meeting, he said, will centre on the ongoing allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria — a topic that has drawn international attention following Trump’s recent comments accusing the Nigerian government of failing to protect Christians from targeted attacks.
Bwala emphasised that both leaders share a strong commitment to combating insurgency and terrorism in all its forms. He noted Trump’s longstanding support for Nigeria, highlighting his approval of arms sales during his administration — a move Tinubu’s government has reportedly leveraged in its counter-terrorism efforts with notable results.
Addressing the ongoing debate about whether terrorist groups in Nigeria specifically target Christians or attack people of all faiths, Bwala said the issue would be discussed and clarified when the two presidents meet.
“The two leaders have a shared interest in the global fight against insurgency and terrorism,” he stated. “President Trump has supported Nigeria through arms sales, and President Tinubu has made significant progress using those resources in the fight against terror.”
He added that the meeting could take place either at the State House in Abuja or at the White House in Washington, with both sides expected to address and resolve any differing views on the nature of religiously motivated attacks in Nigeria.
