Nigerian singer and songwriter Tiwatope Savage, widely known as Tiwa Savage, has opened up about controversies surrounding her, addressing both her fallout with Davido and persistent rumours about a romance with Wizkid.
Speaking on The Breakfast Club, Savage shed light on her December 2023 clash with Davido, which began after she posted an Instagram story featuring Sophia Momodu, Davido’s first baby mama. She explained that the tension stemmed from a misunderstanding.
“Our kids are friends, they’ve been in the same school since they were one. They’re 10 now. I naturally grew closer to Sophia because of that, and I didn’t know there were issues,” she said.
Savage recalled greeting Sophia at a social event, which Davido allegedly misinterpreted as taking sides. According to her, he reacted with threatening messages, prompting her to file a police petition. However, she insisted the move was for safety, not retaliation.
“I don’t believe he meant it the way it sounded. David is such a joyful person. I reached out to his family first before involving the police. I just wanted to ensure safety for everyone,” she explained.
Despite the disagreement, she stressed there was no lasting animosity. “There’s no bad blood. I haven’t spoken to him since, but I love him. I always put our kids first—that’s what matters.”
Savage also addressed long-standing rumours about her and Wizkid, clarifying: “Shout out to Wizkid. I love and respect him, but it’s not about him.” She noted that her past reference to a “secret relationship” was not linked to Wizkid.
Reflecting on that private romance, she described it as emotionally damaging: “It chipped away at my confidence. I even avoided performing certain songs because of how much they reminded me of it. It was embarrassing to think I let that happen.”
Though painful, she said the experience shaped her artistry. “It was tough, but it influenced my music and gave authenticity to my themes of love, heartbreak, and faith.”
