U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Iran to return to the negotiating table, cautioning that the Islamic Republic is not gaining the upper hand in its intensifying conflict with Israel.
According to USA News Today, Trump noted that Iranian officials have signalled a willingness to discuss ways to ease hostilities, as both nations continue to exchange strikes and world leaders seek a path to peace.
Speaking at the G7 summit in Canada on Monday, Trump emphasised that renewed diplomacy is in Iran’s best interest.
“They want to talk,” he said. “They have to make a deal, and it’s painful for both parties. But I’d say Iran is not winning this war, and they should talk—and they should talk immediately, before it’s too late.”
His remarks come amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The latest round of violence began Friday, when over 200 Israeli fighter jets targeted multiple military and nuclear sites across Iran, reportedly killing top generals and scientists.
The U.S. has consistently urged both sides to de-escalate and prioritise diplomacy to prevent further bloodshed.
