UCL: Arsenal ease into semi-finals with 5-1 aggregate victory over Madrid

by Admin

Arsenal secured a dominant 5-1 aggregate win over Real Madrid to book their spot in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, capping off the quarter-final with a 2-1 second-leg victory on Wednesday night at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Heading into the clash with a 3-0 lead from the first leg, the Gunners stayed in control despite an early scare, including a missed penalty by Bukayo Saka in the 13th minute.

The first half saw no goals but plenty of intensity, with early yellow cards for David Alaba (4’) and Raul Asensio (11’), followed by one for Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya in the 36th minute.

Saka redeemed himself in the 65th minute, putting Arsenal ahead after a well-placed assist from Mikel Merino. Real Madrid answered quickly through Vinícius Júnior, who equalised just two minutes later.

The game remained tightly contested until stoppage time, when Gabriel Martinelli sealed the win with a 90+3 minute strike—again assisted by Merino, who delivered an impressive performance.

Late yellow cards were shown to Antonio Rüdiger and Thomas Partey in the 85th minute as the match wrapped up with Arsenal firmly in control.
