A Ghanaian couple residing in the US has been convicted of second-degree murder following the death of their five-year-old son, a tragic incident that occurred nearly three years ago. Valerie Owusu and Emmanuel Addae were found guilty of subjecting the child to brutal beatings using various instruments over the course of three days in 2021, as detailed by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.
Shockingly, neither Owusu, the boy’s biological mother, nor Addae sought medical assistance or called emergency services as the child’s condition deteriorated. Instead, they took him to a relative’s home, where he was later discovered deceased. The District Attorney expressed profound sorrow over the ordeal, emphasizing that the young boy endured days of torment at the hands of his own mother and stepfather before succumbing to his injuries.
The authorities commended the diligent efforts of the Suffolk County Police Department and prosecutors in ensuring that justice was served. The couple is slated to be sentenced on May 1, 2024, with the possibility of facing life imprisonment looming over them.
