The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested approximately 130 foreign nationals for alleged high-level cybercrimes, hacking, and activities that threaten national security.
The majority of the suspects, primarily Chinese and Malaysian nationals, include 87 males and 26 females, who were apprehended in the Jahi area of Abuja. Additionally, 17 Nigerians were arrested in connection with the same activities.
According to a statement from Force spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Sunday, the operation involved a coordinated raid on a building near the Next Cash and Carry area in Jahi, Abuja. It’s reported that the suspects were using computers and other advanced devices to conduct criminal activities.
Led by Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja, AIG Benneth Igweh, on Saturday, 3rd November 2024, the operation included officers from the Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Command Abuja and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC).
“We are thoroughly investigating the case and conducting scientific analysis on the recovered exhibits. Once the investigation is complete, the suspects will be charged to court,” the statement added.
