Newcastle enter the race for Osimhen

by Admin

Newcastle United have entered the race to sign Victor Osimhen in 2025, with the club’s owners, Public Investment Fund, prepared to trigger the Nigerian’s £113m release clause.

According to Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder, the Magpies are among several clubs set to be offered the chance to sign the 25-year-old striker, who is currently on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray from Napoli.

Osimhen has been in exceptional form since joining Galatasaray in September, scoring eight goals in nine appearances across all competitions, including six goals in six Turkish Super Lig matches. His latest contribution came in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Samsunspor, where he scored twice to maintain Galatasaray’s unbeaten run and extend their lead at the Turkish Super Lig summit to six points.

Roma manager Jose Mourinho, who has previously endorsed Osimhen’s quality, believes the Nigerian is worth a significant investment. “Osimhen is a fantastic player. He is a player that if I was in a club with the potential to pay £70-75m, I would buy,” Mourinho told The Independent. His admiration for the former Lille player has reportedly led Fenerbahce to consider a bid that would exceed Galatasaray’s proposed €50m permanent transfer fee.

However, Napoli Sporting Director Giovanni Manna has set a minimum price for any potential suitor. “There are many clubs interested in Victor Osimhen. Galatasaray cannot take Osimhen if it does not pay a net fee of €75m,” Manna stated.

Newcastle’s interest follows an inactive summer transfer window, with manager Eddie Howe eager to strengthen his attacking options. The prospect of pairing Osimhen with current striker Alexander Isak has excited fans, though financial regulations at St James’ Park could complicate any potential deal.

Chelsea and several Saudi Pro League clubs also remain interested in the striker after failed moves last summer, setting the stage for an intense battle for his signature in 2025.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce Vice President Acun Ilıcalı seems less eager to pursue Osimhen, citing the club’s existing forward options. “There is Dzeko, there is En Nesyri, and there is also Cenk. Who will play?” Ilıcalı questioned during a recent television appearance.
