Nigeria’s Moses Simon Nominated for 2025 Marc-Vivien Foé Award

Moses Simon has been shortlisted for the 2025 Marc-Vivien Foé Award, which honours the best African player in France’s Ligue 1.

The FC Nantes winger, in outstanding form this season, is aiming to become the third Nigerian to win the award, following Vincent Enyeama (2014) and Victor Osimhen (2020).

Simon has played a vital role for Nantes, contributing seven goals and eight assists in 25 league matches. His direct involvement in nearly half of the team’s goals underscores his importance, even as the club faces a difficult campaign.

This marks his fourth nomination, following previous appearances on the shortlist in 2020, 2022, and 2024. He is among 12 contenders, including Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi (PSG) and Ivory Coast’s Evann Guessand (OGC Nice).

Named after the late Cameroonian footballer Marc-Vivien Foé, the award is presented annually by RFI and France 24. A jury of nearly 100 journalists specialising in French and African football will decide the winner based on performances throughout the season.

To be eligible, players must have represented an African national team, played at least 15 Ligue 1 matches, and not switched international allegiance during their careers.

Since its inception, the Marc-Vivien Foé Award has recognised African excellence in French football. Enyeama became the first goalkeeper and Nigerian to win in 2014, while Osimhen’s stellar 2019/20 season with Lille earned him the honour before his move to Napoli.

With Simon making the final shortlist, hopes are high for another Super Eagles player to claim the award. The winner of the 2025 Marc-Vivien Foé Award will be announced later this year.
