Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah received the 2025 Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year award on Thursday night.
He clinched the men’s honour with an overwhelming 90 per cent of the vote from the FWA’s 918 eligible members — the largest winning margin so far this century.
The Egyptian was honoured for his exceptional form during the 2024–25 season, which played a key role in guiding Liverpool to the Premier League title.

Across all competitions, Salah has registered 33 goals and 23 assists from 51 appearances so far this season.
His Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk came second in the FWA voting, followed by Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s Declan Rice.
“It means a lot to win this award — it’s incredible,” Salah said during the ceremony.
“I always feel special receiving this recognition. An award from the writers holds something unique. And to win it with such a big margin is just amazing.
“Winning the Premier League and making that kind of impact on the team — I think I said before, I’ve never felt that level of happiness at the club, especially in that moment when we won the league against Spurs.”
