New AC Milan signing Luka Modric has opened up on why he made the move from Real Madrid to the Serie A giants.
Modric completed his switch to Milan after leaving Real Madrid following their exit from the Club World Cup. The Croatian star has signed a one-year deal with the Rossoneri and will wear the No. 14 shirt in the upcoming season.
Explaining his decision, the veteran midfielder said staying in Europe and continuing to play at a high level was a key factor.
“Why AC Milan? I wanted to stay in Europe, continue playing competitive football,” Modric said via MadridXtra. “I had some other offers but when Milan showed up, it was clear for me.”
He also praised the club’s approach and seriousness about the move:
“I was up to it from the first moment. It impressed me how they came to Croatia to present me the project and everything. That was very important to me. Milan is one of the biggest clubs in Europe.”
Modric is now preparing for AC Milan’s upcoming pre-season friendly against Arsenal scheduled for next Wednesday.
