Former champion McGirt backs Joshua to defeat Usyk

by Admin

Former two-weight world champion Buddy McGirt has tipped Anthony Joshua to overcome Oleksandr Usyk in a potential third showdown, despite the Ukrainian’s dominant record over the Briton.

McGirt, a respected trainer, argued that Joshua still has the tools to trouble the undisputed heavyweight king, who has been “nothing short of sensational” throughout his career.

“You’re going to say I’m crazy, but there’s a guy that can beat him, but he’s already beaten this guy twice, and I’m not talking about Tyson Fury,” McGirt told Boxing News.

When pressed if he meant Anthony Joshua, the American nodded before adding, “I’m not going to tell you that, but Anthony Joshua can beat him.”

Usyk’s glittering résumé includes victories over Marco Huck, winning the World Boxing Super Series, and defeating Tyson Fury twice to claim the undisputed crown. Yet McGirt insists Joshua could still upset the odds if a trilogy fight materialises, underlining the enduring draw of the former unified champion.

Whether Joshua will get the chance remains to be seen, with Usyk currently eyeing other names in the division. Meanwhile, rising prospect Moses Itauma has also been tipped—by none other than Tyson Fury—as a future danger to the heavyweight elite.

For Joshua, reclaiming a shot at Usyk would likely require decisive wins against top contenders to force a third chapter in their rivalry.
