Chelsea’s 12-match unbeaten Premier League home run was snapped on Saturday as Brighton came from behind to claim a 3-1 victory over the 10-man Blues at Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Fernández put Chelsea ahead in the first half, rising to meet a Reece James cross after clever build-up play from Moisés Caicedo. The hosts looked in control at the break, but the game shifted dramatically early in the second half when Trevoh Chalobah was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity — Chelsea’s second red card in as many weeks.
With the numerical advantage, Brighton piled forward and levelled in the 77th minute through Danny Welbeck’s header from Yankuba Minteh’s delivery. Maxim De Cuyper then scored his first goal for the club to make it 2-1, before Welbeck struck again in stoppage time to seal the win.
The result handed Brighton their first major away triumph of the campaign, while Chelsea were left ruing another costly dismissal that derailed their momentum.
