Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac says Germany forward Karim Adeyemi will not face sporting sanctions despite receiving a legal fine for attempting to illegally possess a weapon.
Speaking on Thursday, Kovac confirmed that the club had addressed the issue with Adeyemi and decided he would complete community service, stressing that the matter would not impact his role in the squad.
“It’s no reason for me to suspend him in the coming weeks,” Kovac said during a news conference following discussions with the winger.
Reports indicate that Adeyemi ordered an online “mystery box” in early 2024, unaware that it contained items prohibited under German weapons law. The package, delivered months later and still unopened, drew police attention and resulted in a significant fine.
Kovac added, “I am not his father but his coach. People need to keep this in proper perspective. Everything that needs to be said has been said. Our focus is on the Bundesliga, and he will have our full support.”
Dortmund face VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, having lost their last four league matches to the south-west side.
“I understand why the topic is coming up now,” Kovac said. “So let’s go out and win the game.”
