Atlético de Madrid have officially completed the signing of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, with the attacker agreeing to a four-year contract that will keep him at the club until 30 June 2030.

The Spanish side confirmed the deal on their official website on Monday, marking the arrival of one of Europe’s most in-form attackers after an impressive spell in Italy.

“Atlético de Madrid and Atalanta have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ademola Lookman, who has signed with our club until 30 June 2030,” the club said in a statement.

Lookman completed his medical examination at the Vithas-Invictum High-Performance Sports Medicine Centre in Madrid before finalising the move at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, where he was welcomed by CEO Miguel Ángel Gil.

Born in Wandsworth, London, on 20 October 1997, Lookman began his football journey at Waterloo FC and Charlton Athletic, making his senior debut for Charlton in November 2015.

His career later took him across England and Germany, with spells at Everton, RB Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City, before joining Atalanta in 2022.

It was in Bergamo that Lookman reached new heights. He made 137 appearances for Atalanta, scoring 55 goals and registering 27 assists. He played a decisive role in the club’s historic 2023/24 UEFA Europa League triumph, scoring a memorable hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen to secure Atalanta’s first continental title.

On the international stage, Lookman previously represented England at youth level and was part of the team that won the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup. He later committed to Nigeria, making his senior debut for the Super Eagles in March 2022. He has since earned 41 caps and scored 11 goals.
